When looking at different rigs, having a list of questions to ask yourself before you rent an RV will make the experience that much more worthwhile. Each of us has particular ways we live our lives: things we like to do, how we move in our spaces, and locations we prefer to visit. You may be surprised to find that selecting an RV to travel in isn’t much different.
Here are some questions to ask yourself before you rent an RV:
1. How do we live our lives on the day to day?
Are you the kind of person/people that enjoy being outside or do you tend to stay inside?
How you normally behave at home usually translates to how you’ll behave in a rig. Get a good idea of what you do during the day and select a rig that best suits your lifestyle.
For example, if you spend a lot of time inside, a bigger rig might be more comfortable for your travels. However, if you tend to spend most of your time outside, a smaller rig may work really well for you. No matter your lifestyle, be sure the rig you decide to rent out is conducive to you.
2. How do we normally move in our spaces?
When you’re at home, what is your normal flow? When you wake up, where do you go?
Think of how you move around at home. RV layouts vary from one rig to another, so no matter how you move around your spaces you’re bound to find a rig that fits your daily movements.
3. What are the most important aspects of a home to us?
What amenities are you looking for in an RV?
Whatever amenities you prefer in a house, you’ll most likely prefer the same amenities on your vacation. To be comfortable on your travels, be sure the rig you choose has the amenities you don’t like to travel without.
For example, if you spend a lot of time in the kitchen, check out that space when you’re inspecting an RV. Would it work for your routine every day?
4. How often (or how far) do we plan to travel on a regular basis?
How far do you plan on taking your RV? Do you have a fuel-type preference?
There are gas and diesel RVs. If this is important to you for cost or any other reasons, be sure the rig you choose meets your preferred standard. (Gone with the Wynns wrote a great article comparing the two types of fuel for an RV that is well worth a read.)
5. How much do we want to spend?
When it comes to your RV rental and the kinds of activities you want to do on the road, how much will that cost?
Talking about cost is not the most fun topic when it comes to your RV vacation, but it’s an important question to ask nonetheless.
It’s no surprise that older rigs may cost less to rent while newer rigs may cost more, but with such a large spectrum of RVs you will find something that fits within your budget.
When you’ve got a good idea of what kind of rig you want to travel in, how big it needs to be, and how far and how long you’re going to be traveling think about how much you’re willing to spend to rent out an RV.
No matter where you decide to go or what kind of rig you want to take with you, having a few questions to ask yourself before renting an RV allows you the chance to make a more informed decision. After all, when you know what you need to make your vacation the best it can be, the more fun you can have along the way.
