We enjoyed our week experiencing van life, but unfortunately our rental experience was disappointing. The listing advertised unlimited mileage, yet the owners seemed unhappy that we actually drove the van and made us feel criticized for using it as intended. If there are expectations regarding mileage, they should be clearly stated in the listing instead of advertising unlimited mileage. The vehicle also requires maintenance. The windshield wipers—especially the driver's side—need to be replaced, as visibility was extremely poor in the rain. The floor has a hole that is hidden under a small mat. The side mirrors are broken and have sharp edges, creating a safety concern. Several warning lights were illuminated on the dashboard throughout our trip. The dishes and kitchenware were greasy when we picked up the van, so we had to wash everything before using it.Communication was poor. On the day of departure, we waited until late for the promised instructional video explaining how to use the cab bunk, but we never received it.After the trip, we were charged an additional $338.40 for returning the van late, which was not told when we gave back the keys and did the final check up of the van. Beyond that, we were also criticized for the number of miles we drove despite the listing advertising unlimited mileage. We were further accused of having caused damage to the van in an accident. We completely dispute that allegation, as no such accident occurred during our rental.Although we enjoyed the van life experience itself, the overall rental experience and the post-trip interactions left us disappointed. Next time, we will choose a professional rental company.
