Hello- we had a family wedding reception at my cousin’s property in Millbrook, Ontario. As we could not find a convenient AirBnB, we thought about renting an RV so My wife and daughter, my brother and wife and daughter and our mother could sleep over, as there was lots of family staying over and another 29’ RV trailer was also there for family. Even though we only needed to use the trailer for a few hours Late Saturday night into Sunday morning, and as there was a three day minimum rental, we had my cousin pick up the trailer, 10 minutes from his house in Millbrook, on the Friday Sept 23, to set it up for our Saturday sleep over. As my cousin has his own RV trailer, we understood there to be no issues on pick up. When we arrived at the farm Saturday around 5pm, we noticed there was what appeared to be black exhaust markings above a panel at the rear side of the trailer, before we had even entered the trailer. Adnan, my cousin, said it was likely exhaust markings from propane hot water heater. We assumed it was preexisting, as we had not yet used the trailer. It had only been set up, leveled, and power turned on. We slept from around 3am til about 9:30am, packed up bedding and belongings, and enjoyed breakfast with family from across the country. Adnan then returned trailer early afternoon. On the drive back to Hamilton, received a message from trailer owner Chris Peterson via Outdoorsy, asking if there was a fire and would we like to explain before he puts in a damage claim. From what had been a pleasant experience with Outdoorsy, I became quite upset by the owner’s allegation that we returned a fire damaged trailer. Since we had seen the exhaust markings upon arrival, we assumed as it is not a new trailer, it was likely just from previous normal use. My cousin , who owns his own RV trailer, and has extensive experience with trailers, contacted Chris, and explained essentially what I said. It was lightly used for a few hours sleep, if the hot water heater was activated at some point, the exhaust markings sometimes happens, and can just be wiped away. Chris insisted there was possibly some fire damage, and he would be taking trailer to a local dealer for assessment. My concern is , we so lightly used the trailer for a few hours of sleep, AFTER noticing the exhaust marks, there is no way our normal use could have caused any damage to the trailer, as we had only used it for a few hours sleep. And in any case, if the water heating system was in proper working order, through normal use, there is no way an Outdoorsy client could cause damage to a water heater. We had no idea the trailer owner would be souring our otherwise positive experience, or we would have taken precautionary photos. We are very upset that that the owner may submit a damage claim for a preexisting issue with his water heater. We slept only a few hours in trailer. Light washroom use, cold water hand washing. Please advise.
Thank you,

Chris’s answer

Thank you for the unwarranted claim. The trailer was in 100% working order upon pickup. The burn marks were not present when picking the trailer up. When the trailer was returned, NOT one person mentioned it to me about the burn marks near the water heater that went up the side of the trailer. I contacted the renter to ask what had caught fire, and was deemed the water heater had caught fire. No one from the renters side can fess up to say someone turned on the water heater any time, but put the blame back onto me for some reason. Upon further inspection the water heater was no operating correctly, and told the renter i would be in touch with the dealer monday AM to get it checked out. After checking with the dealer, they deemed it to be a fuel issue with the heater and was corrected on site. I emailed the renter explaining that it was all good, and there would be no further charges as everything got rectified. But all i got was attacked from the renter and his cousin about how it " was pre existing" and not there first rodeo. But i wont mention the garbage that was left in the bathroom, and the trailer jacks were half down upon dropping it off either. That must of been my fault too. People if you rent anything in this world, be adults and own it. Deflection makes you look guilty. Best of luck to everyone in the future, as i will not rent to you again.

My family had a great camping experience in Chris’ trailer. The cleanliness, the extras for our camping use and the comfort to go along with it, we couldn’t have wanted anything else.
Thanks for the great experience Chris.
We will definitely rent from you again.
Not to mention the cold beverages you left in the fridge were a nice touch as well.
Thank you!!

Great first experience! Chris delivered/ set up the trailer for us and gave a thorough walk through on how everything works. We only had a 15amp hook up so Chris was able to accommodate by hooking up the fridge to propane, which allowed us to still use our AC! The trailer was exactly as pictured and was perfect for myself, my partner and our 18 month old son. Would definitely book with Chris again!

This was my first time renting an RV and the experience was great. Chris the owner took the time to walk us through how the RV functions and after that we had very little questions for him.
