Meet Pepe... the brainchild of AT Overland out of Flagstaff, AZ. Back in 2015, they set out to build a world-capable, American-based truck and overland-expedition camper. Not only did they succeed, they set the standard. Til' this day, the Dodge Ram x Four Wheel Campers combo is still the ideal overlanding setup.Pepe is part truck, part camper. The truck is a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500, single cab, flatbed, equipped with a Cummins turbo-diesel engine, automatic transmission and four wheel drive (4wd/4x4). It has been outfitted with an Icon 4.5 inch Stage 3 suspension system, Alcan leaf springs, AirLift air springs (air bags), 37 inch Nitto Ridge Grappler tires on AEV Salta wheels, ARB air compressor, ARB rear air locker, ARB front bumper with ARB intensity lights and ComeUp Seal Gen2 16.5s winch. The camper is a 2015 Four Wheel Campers Hawk, Flat Bed Model. It has a queen-sized bed, dinette that converts into a twin bed, stove, sink, inside and outside showers (both with hot water), built-in waterless toilet and eight foot awning. It is also equipped with thermal insulation to keep the camper warm on cold nights and cool on hot days. Plus, it has a forced air furnace (heater) if additional heat is preferred. Power comes from dual 6 volt batteries that charge when the truck is moving or from solar panels when the truck is parked. Both 12 volt and USB outlets are available to charge mobile devices and small electronics. And the refrigerator/freezer will keep food fresh, beer cold and ice cream frozen.Together, the truck and camper are an amazing adventure-mobile. It can go anywhere a car can go and much, much further. Even though it is a full-sized truck, it is only 6 inches longer and wider than a Toyota Tacoma. It is much easier to drive than most RVs and parking is no problem at all due to its relative compact size and reverse camera. For a video tour of the camper, copy and paste the following link into a web browser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1e1S7IOE8KsWhat's includedEverything you'll need to camp comfortably is included, including a two person sleeping bag, towels, cookware, cooking utensils, camping chairs, a camping table and full propane and water tanks. All you need to supply are clothes, personal items and food and drinks.RecommendationsThis truck camper is for those who are interested in overlanding, off-roading, full-sized truck campers, 4wd/4x4 truck campers, flatbed truck campers and pop-up campers. Many people who rent Pepe are considering buying or building an overlander and/or a flatbed truck camper, so this rental allows them to try it out before making a very expensive decision. However, everyone is welcome to rent Pepe however they see fit.The state of California has 9 national parks and 280 state parks, as well as each county and city in California have their own parks too, so there's plenty to see and do here.If you would like to stay at a specific campground, it is highly recommended you make a reservation well in advance, especially during the summer, on holidays and weekends.Other things to noteDue to the truck's single cab configuration, this camper can only accommodate a maximum of 2 people. A third passenger may be accommodated, however, they need to be small enough to fit in the middle seat and not require a car seat.If you're flying into San Diego, an airport pick up can be arranged for an additional fee. Please inquire. While this truck camper is capable of going pretty much anywhere, it takes extensive off-roading skills to do so. Therefore, this truck camper is limited to EASY/BEGINNER rated off-road trails ONLY. It is not allowed on moderate/intermediate and difficult/expert off-road trails. Basically, if a stock 4x4 cannot easily navigate it, you cannot go on it.Also, by law, this truck camper cannot cross any international borders, including Mexico and Canada.Don't worry, there are thousands of miles of truck trails, Forest Service and BLM roads in the Southwest where you can enjoy secluded camping and beautiful views all to yourselves. Not sure where to go? Just ask us and we’ll show you.
