October 20214

The ac didn’t work and I don’t think that was really stated anywhere, and it was pretty warm during the day. It blows hot air even when the air is turned completely off sometimes. The roof top tent required three people to close the first time- the egg crate that was added seemed to be in the way and not cut down to fit under the hydraulic arms. Even after that it was too hard to get the back to close by myself (my friend couldn’t even do it in his own) so I had to either find help, pay for a hotel or sleep in the back seat.. which typically ended in me having to drive to a place I knew I had help the next morning, so it wasted a lot of time/gas/mileage on my trip. Not sure if it has to do with the age of the tent- it seemed to be an older model with noticeable wear on the decal and cracking on the shell. Still- it’s an expensive and high end tent (even if it were 10+ yes old) so I don’t understand why it was so hard to close. The 5 gallon water jug wasn’t secured in any way in the back and the pump they got for it was a good idea, but it didn’t seal properly and spilled when barely bumped. Seems a bungee cord and another $15 on Amazon for a different pump would solve that. The window on the passenger side almost got stuck down a few times- once when it started to drizzle so I was scared to even roll the windows down sometimes in fear of it getting stuck. The back latch is about to break off as it is rusted through and already broken in a few places. She’s an old rig which I get.. but I feel like people need to be aware of those things and shouldn’t have to worry about windows getting stuck down. There was a strong smell of burning oil at the beginning that mostly went away, and I did ask right away about the physical state of the vehicle and the owner was very nice, saying they were aware and it was probably just from the recent oil change. What saves the rating is the kindness of the couple renting it and their willingness to work with a drop off location near the train station since I was flying in to Boston to rent the vehicle. They also did provide a good amount of camping gear so that was great! I’m sure people will add to it along the way as I have!
