NEVER AGAIN! I rented this for a birthday trip with my wife to a friend's property for a campout with friends. It was a stationary rental, the owner dropped the 5th wheel off and picked it up. At first glance, the RV was nice and pretty spacious. We had some air conditioning issues at first, but seemed to resolve themselves, for just a short while. I fed my dog in the kitchen area and did not notice he had left a kernel of food by his bowl. I came back in about an hour later, I found the food kernel covered in what I thought were sugar ants. When I grabbed a paper towel to clean it up I started getting bites on my hands. That is when I knew they were fire ants. I quickly called my friend over to help me see where they were coming from. There were none on the ground under the trailer, and when we opened the front storage compartment they were all over it. We called the owner, he suggested putting borax on the outside of the trailer. We told him they were not on the outside of the trailer, they were in the front compartment. We bought ant baits and crossed our fingers. We woke up the next morning and my wife had bites on her feet, hands, legs, and arms. We called the owner again and told him we didn't want the rental anymore. He came by and put borax around the trailer and refused to take the trailer. He said I had to email Outdoorsy, which I did. My wife refused to go back in the trailer, the ants were everywhere, in our luggage, on the bed, everywhere. We never ate in the trailer. We moved everything out that morning and never used it again. Meantime, no word from Outdoorsy until 3 days later, when they showed the owner refused the request to cancel the rental and pick up the trailer. There was a concern that the other trailers at our friend's house would be affected by the ants, but luckily none were. None of the 5 other trailers parked right next to each other had ants. NONE. He showed up on the return day and started complaining about the damage done to the rear of the trailer, which he did when he brought it in, damage from low hanging branches to the top of the trailer that he drove in and knew about the tree coverage before he agreed to the rental, accused someone of throwing a can of soda on the side of the trailer. We saw a can, it was cold. No one but the owner was near the trailer at that time and it was over 100 degrees out, so the assumption is it was the owner's can of soda. I think it was root beer, which no one visiting all weekend drank. Now we get home and get an email on the security deposit/insurance claiming we did all of the above damage on a stationary rental. We never drove it. So we spent the next few days responding to emails with pictures and videos of one of the most horrible and traumatic vacation experiences we have ever had. We feel scammed out of our money and are still fighting for it. We should not have to pay for something we did not use and was brought to us in a condition that it was unusable. This has been such a horrible experience, bringing us to the point that we will NEVER EVER EVER rent from the owner or through Outdoorsy again.

Trevor’s answer

I believe this rental was unfortunate and not pleasant for either party. With that, several statements made by Chris were inaccurate. Prior to the rental I messaged Chris several times requesting he verify clearance with overhead hazards. He responded with "We will meet you there and drive you in. You have have no issues with clearance." That's directly from his message. It was however not all clear and a fig tree, water oak tree and several bits of overgrowth impeded the roadway. Also upon entering, there was insufficient room to back into the provided parking area for a 42' camper and ram 3500 truck. I then asked Chris to watch the back of the camper while I attempted to maneuver the camper he agreed but was not successful in this endeavor and after 5 years with this camper it received its second damage. The first being the trees scraping across every surgace. After 1.5 hours the camper was parked, inspected, pictures taken and accepted. 2 hours later I received notification of ants and asked how I could assist they said they had gotten bait and needed no further action. The next day they called upset about the ants for which I replied what can I do, Chris continued to message me over the course of the next hour and I notified him I will come out there and remedy the issue with permission. After another hour of complaints my wife and I headed over and requested permission to enter. They finally authorized this and we began cleaning the entirety of the camper. We utilized borax on the exterior where we found the ants entering behind the rear tires. We used diatomaceous earth on the interior to stay pet friendly and jell bait in areas behind furniture and appliances. No ants present after this action. To address the soda can incident, upon pickup I began my inspection and immediately found dried soda covering a 5x8' area on the left side of camper and a open soda can on the ground. As I took pictures of the damage Chris picked up the can and said a larger gentleman was staying in the camper next to mine and he may have fallen into it. Leaving a small dent and scuffed the finish above soda stains. To top it off they had 6 campers on the property and inadequate power supplied to the box. Resulting in both my converter and inverter shorting out from constant trip reset of the breaker. This rental cost me so far $3500 and all damage has yet to be repaired. Lastly I hope these renters never attempt to rent from me again.
