Orpheum Theater

attraction Sioux City, IA
An easy walk through downtown Sioux City takes you past several noted landmarks and green spaces, such as Mid City Park and the Woodbury County Courthouse. Continue to walk a few minutes south of the courthouse to find the Orpheum Theatre, a historic landmark and working drama and production house. The theater was constructed in 1927, and at the time it was the biggest in the state. Since then the venue has gone through a number of incarnations to reflect the entertainment trends of the 20th and 21st century. It was originally an opulent vaudeville playhouse that hosted symphony and ballet performances. Hollywood names like Katherine Hepburn and Kirk Douglas performed here. Since then, it?s been remodeled as a movie house, closed and condemned after several disastrous alterations, then remodeled, restored, and reopened. The theater currently features a variety of stage performances that include live music, stand up comedy, and special holiday events.
