LEMON WARNING!!! Our experience renting this RV was extremely disappointing from start to finish. I would strongly recommend avoiding this rental. When we arrived to pick up the RV, the owner informed us during the walkthrough that the electric slide-out did not work and that we would have to use a manual crank if we wanted to extend it. While this was disappointing, we decided to continue with our trip. Shortly after we started driving, we realized the air conditioner was not working properly. It would cycle between the front and back of the RV but never cooled the interior consistently. Inside temperatures stayed between 80–90°F, making the drive very uncomfortable, especially with 2 dogs. The owner also failed to tell us that we needed to turn off the air conditioner while climbing hills. As a result, the radiator hose came off, all of the coolant spilled out, and we were stranded on the shoulder of a busy freeway next to a ravine. When we called roadside support, they simply directed us back to the owner. He told my husband that he could repair it, but we did not have tools. We certainly did not expect to be repairing an RV on the side of the highway that was supposedly inspected and ready to rent. Eventually, the owner sent his cousin to help, but we waited for over an hour in nearly 100-degree temperatures with two dogs. The repair required three jugs of coolant, which had to be diluted using ten bottles of our own drinking water so we could continue our trip. We arrived at our destination more than two hours late. The next morning, another issue arose. While the air conditioner was running on low, attempting to brew a single cup of coffee caused the generator breaker to trip. It took nearly two hours to figure out how to restore power. We called the Coachmen support number inside the RV, but they told us the vehicle was too old for them to provide assistance. When the owner finally responded, he sent a photo of the wrong breaker panel. The actual breaker was hidden behind a box that required tools to remove, so we had to borrow tools from neighboring campers just to access it. We eventually fixed the issue ourselves, but it cost us another two hours of our vacation. At the end of our trip, we removed the bedding and found stains on the mattress cover that appeared consistent with bed bug markings. I sent photos to the owner and never received a response. When we manually extended the slide-out, we also noticed that part of the flooring appeared to have been replaced and remained extremely sticky near the kitchen table, as though the repair had never been completed properly. Several friends who saw the RV commented that it was in poor condition and should not be offered as a rental. One cabinet above the driver's-side bunk could not even be opened because the wood had deteriorated so badly. Despite the RV's condition, we thoroughly cleaned it before returning it. I swept the floors, vacuumed them with my shop vac, disinfected the kitchen and bathroom, and even found caked-on dirt behind the kitchen sink beneath the window. We also spent $230 filling the gas tank before parking the RV where instructed and leaving the keys in the drop box. The next morning, the owner claimed the gas tank was not full. When I asked for photos, he refused to send them directly to me. He also accused us of damaging the exterior above the driver's side where a seal had separated. This accusation was completely unfounded. That area already showed signs of a poor previous repair, the seal was visibly warped, and there was evidence of rotten wood inside the RV in the same location. After driving approximately 70 mph for several hours in temperatures between 90 and 100 degrees, it is entirely possible that the already-deteriorated repair failed further. I explained that we had not refilled the propane or emptied the waste tanks because, after losing hours of our vacation due to multiple mechanical failures and receiving no compensation, I felt that was more than reasonable. The owner responded that "that's not how it works" and proceeded to charge us an additional $350 without discussing it with us beforehand. when expressing my frustration over all of the events that happened, I also have in writing from him that "its part of camping on a rv, you never know what is going to happen". Overall, we paid approximately $800 for a vacation that was repeatedly interrupted by mechanical failures, poor maintenance, unsafe conditions, and a lack of support. To make matters worse, we were later accused of causing damage that appears to have existed before our rental and were charged additional fees. We left feeling taken advantage of and would not recommend renting this RV under any circumstances.
