Elk Neck State Park covers 2,370 acres across four areas: Turkey Point Lighthouse. Found at the peninsula's southern tip, this area is home to a historic lighthouse that was built in 1833. Sitting atop a 100-foot bluff, the lighthouse offers spectacular views of the river and Chesapeake Bay. The views alone will be enough to have you reaching for your camera, while bird enthusiasts will relish the chance to watch hawks and eagles soaring through the sky at the Raptor Viewing Field. North East Beach Area and Picnic Shelters. This day-use area is found in the western area of Elk Neck State Park and is the place to go if you want to indulge in any water sports. Swimmers looking to escape the summer heat can enjoy easy access to the Chesapeake Bay's Susquehanna Flats, while there's also a launching area for people wanting to take to the water on a canoe or kayak. Picnic tables, grills, restrooms, and cold showers complete the list of facilities here. Rogues Harbor Boat Launch Facility. If you want to launch a boat on the Elk River, Rogues Harbor is an easy place to do it. Two fishing piers are also provided here if you'd like to cast a line without leaving dry land, with bass the main species targeted. Hikers are also well catered for with easy access to the four-mile Beaver Marsh Trail and the three-mile White Banks Trail, both of which offer challenging treks through the woods and marshlands of the park. Elk River Camping Area. We'll discuss the facilities in the Elk River Camping Area in more detail in the next section, but this campground is found in the eastern area of the park and also features a nature center, park store, and kids' playground.
