Discover Duluth RV rentals for memorable road trips

The small city of Duluth, Minnesota is on the shores of Lake Superior and was at one time the fastest growing city in the country; it was poised to be even larger than Chicago due to its massive strategic importance as a port city. Often times called the “Zenith City”, Duluth, along with Superior, WI, just over the state border, serves as one of the most important ports in the country. Duluth at one point handled more gross tonnage of shipments than either Baltimore or New York, making it the busiest port in America.

At first, Duluth was a trading settlement where French fur traders and Native Americans exchanged goods and peacefully coexisted. After the decline of the fur trade, iron, copper, and even gold were discovered north of the city, which attracted countless people from the east coast, and the rest of the world for that matter. Duluth’s current population is diverse due to the influx of immigrants during the mining boom of the early 20th century. After the mines began to run dry, the town again reinvented itself to become a haven for tourists. The historic downtown was revitalized and brought back to life with hundreds of wonderful locally-owned businesses popping up left and right.

In addition to its beautiful coastline and historic buildings, Duluth has always been known as a city of innovation. The first electric elevator and the first mall were both conceived in Duluth, along with many other notable inventions and ideas.

When you book an RV in Duluth, you can achieve your goals in creating an exciting, memorable, interesting vacation. The city is easy to access from Minneapolis and St. Paul, just two hours north on Interstate 35. An international airport also services the Duluth area along with railroad tracks and the aforementioned freshwater port, so renting an RV in Duluth is an absolute pleasure.

Experience the Sites and Scenery

Duluth takes pride in being known as an outdoors-oriented city, which becomes quite clear when you rent an RV there. With an astonishing 129 parks, 11,000 acres of open green space, 6,834 acres of city park, and over 200 miles of walking and biking trails, Duluth was practically built to enjoy the great outdoors. One of the more notable parks within the city is the Leif Erikson Park, named for the famous Viking navigator that reached North America in 997 AD. The park houses a replica of Erikson's ship that was sailed from Norway to its permanent home in Duluth. Jay Cooke State Park, adjacent to Duluth, is one of the most visited parks in all of Minnesota. Home to trails and original structures that are currently on the National Register of Historic Places, the architecture, history, and stunning scenery in the forest are unbeatable. The wildlife within the park is a treat to see, and the many recreational activities such as canoeing and kayaking on one of the many waterways always lead to adventure. Superior Municipal Forest is across the river in Wisconsin; with 4,400 acres, the Superior Municipal Forest the third largest urban forest in the country, making it perfect for escaping the city and enjoying the serenity of nature from the comforts of a Duluth, MN motorhome rental. Mountain biking and hiking are the things to do in summer, and snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling dominate the winter time. Finland, Kabetogama, and George Washington State Forest are fantastic places to take your Duluth camper rental, with their ample camping space and divine natural beauty. Superior National Forest is one of the most remote stretches of land in the contiguous United States, and another ideal place to visit when you rent an RV in Duluth. Nearly four million acres of pristine land is ready to explore, and campgrounds, recreation areas, and wilderness areas are easy to find. Voyageurs National Park and Isle Royale National Park, up near the Canadian border, are exceptional in every way and deserve a visit too when you decide to rent a camper in Duluth, although Isle Royale is only accessible by boat.

City Attractions

Duluth is most definitely a gateway to the outdoors, but don’t be fooled by the city’s affinity for mother nature. There is plenty to do in Duluth with its many historic neighborhoods and locally-owned businesses. The buildings and architecture of Duluth could be attractions themselves, with lots of different cultural influences and styles between them. The Historic Central High School was built in 1892 and houses a museum depicting what a classroom looked like over a hundred years ago. The 230-foot tall clock tower is the centerpiece of the sandstone architectural wonder, with chiming patterns modeled after Big Ben in London, England. The Glensheen Historic Estate is another marvelous building now housing a museum for enthusiastic learners. The waterfront property includes 12 acres of landscaped land and gardens coupled with a 20,000 square foot mansion full of antique furniture. The Lake Superior Zoo is one of the very best in the region, with lots of live events and workshops for learning. Exotic animals from other continents are rescued and rehabilitated at Lake Superior Zoo, giving people the opportunity to see the incredible wildlife up close. The Great Lakes Aquarium is the largest freshwater aquarium in the country and focuses exclusively on freshwater ecosystems. With over 200 species of reptiles, birds, fish, amphibians, and mammals, there is lots to learn at this exquisite institution next to the bay. There are of course many other options as far as entertainment goes when you rent an RV in Duluth, but not enough space to list them all.

Where to Park It

There are many places to camp overnight in your Duluth travel trailer rental in and around the city, so it all depends on what type of experience you are looking for. Spirit Lake Marina and RV caters to every kind of recreational boater, with ample dock space and even a tackle shop for those that enjoy fishing. This waterfront property is relaxing and easy to find. Indian Point Campground offers tent and RV camping high above the bay among the elms, maples, and pines. Fishing and swimming in the St. Louis River is just one of the reasons to consider a stay at Indian River Campground. Spirit Mountain Campground is nestled in the forested hills above Duluth, and directly across from the park is an exciting adventure park with golfing, alpine coasters, ziplines, rope courses, and many other fun-filled features. There are lots of places to refuel, stock up, and stay in Duluth, and this number only grows the farther north you go.

September, 2026

We had a great experience renting this lightweight camper for a short camping trip. It was easy to tow with our Jeep Cherokee, and the pickup and drop-off process was quick and hassle-free. Brandon was great to work with and communicated clearly throughout the rental. He made scheduling the pickup easy and was very helpful with the entire process. Overall, it was a smooth and enjoyable experience, and we would definitely rent from Brandon again!
