Brendan T. Byrne State Forest is home to Whitesbog Village, an important agricultural community in the 19th and 20th centuries that produced cranberries and blueberries, and has an annual Blueberry Festival in June. The forest itself is an outdoor public recreation park that provides access to hiking and mountain biking in the summer and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. The trails through the park vary in difficulty, and some are wheelchair accessible; enthusiasts can expect to see a variety of wildlife in amongst the pine and white cedar trees, and picnic tables and grills are available. Hunting is allowed in select areas. Tuckahoe-Corbin City Fish and Wildlife Management Area is a multi-use outdoor area that provides access to hunting and fishing as well as other outdoor recreation activities. The park consists of pine and oak tree stands, a hardwood swamp, and a small freshwater lake. A sand and gravel road extends through the park which visitors can hike or mountain bike (road conditions might make it suitable for off-road vehicles). The diverse habitats make it an excellent venue for bird watching, and hunting is allowed in certain seasons with the appropriate licenses. Penn State Forest is an undeveloped natural resource suitable for hiking and picnicking and contains a lake within its borders, Lake Oswego, where visitors can go fishing or canoeing. The lake is the result of an upstream dam built to create a reservoir. Portions of the forest contain trees that, at maturity, are no more than four feet tall, allowing nature lovers to look out over the tree canopy while standing firmly on the ground; this area is officially named the Pine Barren Plains but is locally known as the Pygmy Forest.
