Discover Charlotte, NC
The open road and the Queen City are calling you and your rental RV! Named after the British queen consort at the time of the city’s founding, Charlotte, North Carolina is rich in history, beauty and adventure. It’s the largest city in the state and the 17th biggest city in the country. Millions of fans flock to the Bank of America Stadium to catch the Carolina Panthers (NFL) in action. Charlotte is also home of the Hornets (NBA), owned by retired basketball legend, Michael Jordan. This magnificent metropolis isn’t just a concrete jungle. It’s an urban forest, having been named a “Tree City” by the National Arbor Day foundation for more than 30 years! Navigating an RV rental in Charlotte would be not difficult, as infrastructure in the area is designed for high traffic flow, but Charlotte’s transportation system makes getting around a breeze. The LYNX Blue Line, a light rail system, connects South Charlotte to Center City. The line is available every 7.5 minutes during rush hour on weekdays and trains go directly through the convention center. The CityLYNX Gold Line streetcar system connects Charlotte from east to west. When you book an RV rental in Charlotte, you won’t have to worry about getting around to see the sights!
The Great Outdoors
Charlotte and the surrounding area lie in the heart of Appalachia, formed by the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains. This hilly, rugged country is fertile with large forests sweeping the mountainsides. Morrow Mountain State Park is just 48 miles to the east of Charlotte in Albemarle, North Carolina. There are over 30 miles of trails between hiking and horse routes to take in the scenery and reach one of the topmost points in elevation in the Piedmont. The boathouse at the peak of Morrow Mountain has canoes and rowboats for rent so visitors can fully enjoy Lake Tillery. The park’s family campground has more than 100 sites for tent campers and RV trailers so you’ll have no problem finding a good spot for a rental travel trailer in Charlotte. Looking for a wet and wild adventure? Look no further than the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte; it’s got the biggest man-made whitewater river in the world! Olympic canoe and kayak competitors train here, but the rapids are open to the public. The facility also features an enormous outdoor rock climbing wall, zip-lining trails, live music, yoga classes, adventure dining, and more.
Cruise your rental motorhome from Charlotte outside the city and there’s plenty more to see! Take a trip to visit the Uwharrie National Forest in Troy. The forest encompasses roughly 51,000 acres of land. Dispersed camping is allowed throughout, with plenty of RV trailer accessible campsites along most of the service roads and trails. The area is an excellent place for hiking, horse riding, hunting, trapping, and fishing. Less than 40 miles north of Charlotte, in Troutman, is Lake Norman State Park. Lake Norman is the largest man-made lake in the state. The park features one of the region’s most popular mountain biking networks with more than 30 miles of trail. Fishing spots dot the park’s hiking trails and there’s a pleasant swim beach for guests to enjoy. The campground is RV-friendly and open from early spring to mid-fall. Year-round, visitors can rent a community building with a fireplace, kitchen facilities and restrooms for group events.
Though the streets of Charlotte are navigable while hauling your RV trailer, it may be easier to park it at an RV resort and avoid all the city traffic. Elmore RV Park & Campground is open year round, featuring full hookup sites and free WiFi. The campground is only a few minutes from Eastwood Park as well as Uptown Charlotte, the city’s hotspot for shopping, dining, sports venues, and live music. Plus, the city bus makes frequent stops here. North of Uptown is Glenwood Acres RV Park in Concord. Glenwood is in NASCAR country, located just a few minutes from the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The park has more than 100 full hookup RV campsites with an on-site gas station and convenience store.
Head into the mountains for an Appalachian escape at Mountain Stream RV Park. The pet-friendly park is open only to RVs, so they’ll be happy to welcome you in your rental RV from Charlotte. Located in the heart of the Pisgah National Forest, the park sits at 1800 feet above sea level and is surrounded by breathtaking mountains. The forest covers more than 500,000 acres with whitewater rivers, waterfalls and hundreds of miles of trail throughout. Go south just 15 miles and you’re in South Carolina! A great place to stay in your rental RV trailer is Crown Cove RV Park. There are more than 120 shady sites at the park, giving it a downhome country feel in the thick of the city. Crown Cove is close to many of North Carolina’s major attractions; like the Uptown Amphitheatre, Sea Life Aquarium and the Zoo, as well as some of South Carolina’s most notable cities; like Rock Hill, York County and Fort Mill. When you search for an RV in Charlotte, you’ll find plenty of places to visit all around the region.
Exploring the City
The Queen City is a gem of the South, offering visitors an experience of a lifetime every time. Not only is Charlotte the home of the NASCAR Hall of Fame, but each year in May, it hosts the 600 Festival. Formally known as Speed Street, this festival floods the streets of Uptown with millions of guests to enjoy live music, fast cars, and great food. Charlotte also has more than a dozen museums, including the cultural epicenter of the Mint Museum, and ImaginOn, one of the best children’s museums in the country. Nearby, there’s plenty of amazing places to feed your hunger. You’ll find places to try quintessential southern comfort food, classic Carolina BBQ, or even a sushi burger bar (an unusual but dynamite combination).
