I had a wonderful short trip with this van to Napa Valley. It’s full of character and char; clearly loved and well cared for. As a 30-year-old vehicle, it brings that unmistakable nostalgic feeling for anyone who’s spent time around old VW buses. The moment you start driving, a smile takes over. You don’t rush the road, you enjoy it. You don’t zoom past the sights, you take them in. This isn’t a new Sprinter, and you shouldn’t expect it to be. But if you’re looking for lasting memories and a fun, soulful adventure, this is the van for you.

Rules and policies
To ensure the Beluga stays in wonderful condition for you and all future adventurers, we ask that you agree to these few simple rules. Your safety and the long-term health of our classic van are our top priorities! 1. Paved Roads and well-maintained gravel roads only (No Off-Roading) The Beluga is a classic road-tripping van, not a 4x4. To prevent damage to the undercarriage and sensitive components, please stay on paved roads at all times. Occasionally, light-gravel roads are ok to get to campsites, etc. The van features a custom lowered floor to provide more interior headroom, and its clearance is not suitable for rough, unpaved surfaces. A great rule of thumb from the manufacturer is: "don't drive a Roadtrek where you wouldn't drive a car". This includes, but is not limited to, rugged Forest Service roads, desert trails, and driving on beaches. 2. Avoid Snow, Ice, and Freezing Conditions For your safety and to protect the van's plumbing, driving in snow, ice, or on roads requiring chains is strictly prohibited. The Beluga is not equipped with snow tires. Most importantly, the van’s water system (fresh tank, water heater, and lines) is not designed for winter use and should not be used in below-freezing temperatures. Exposure to freezing weather can cause pipes to burst, leading to significant damage. Please plan your route to avoid winter conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Q.

Can I leave my personal car with you during my trip?

A.

Yes, you are welcome to park your car on the street in in front of our house while you travel. Please note that parking is at your own risk.

Q.

How many people can travel and sleep in the van?

A.

The van has seatbelts for 4 people (two in the front captain's chairs, two in the rear). It comfortably sleeps up to four people. It features a permanent, ready-made full-size bed in the rear and two single beds that can be set up in the front lounge area (these are more akin to camping cots). It's perfect for a couple, two friends, or a small family.

Q.

Where is the van located?

A.

The van is located in Oakland, CA (94605). It's a convenient starting point for exploring the Bay Area, heading down the coast to Big Sur, or venturing out to Yosemite and the Sierras.

Q.

I've never driven an RV before. Is it hard to drive?

A.

Not at all! This is one of the best features of the Roadtrek. It was famously marketed as "The Motorhome That... Drives Like a Van!". It's responsive, and fits into most standard parking spot, making it a real pleasure to drive without the stress of a larger rig.
