RecommendationsThere is a lot of beautiful wilderness to explore around Mt. Jefferson, free camping abound and I can lead you to some areas that are quite easy/safe to reach with my vehicle. I have GPS coordinates of a couple of my favorite spots that I can share -- but I'm new to the area so my binder isn't that huge (but is growing!!).Otherwise -- my van is perfect to bring to developed campgrounds. It can act as you tent on wheels!!Other things to noteHere are some FAQs:Q: Where do I pick up the van?
A: My van (and I) are currently located in Salem, Oregon. There is off-street parking available at my house for the duration of your trip. I will provide the address for pick-up during the booking process.
Q: Does you van have an awning? I see one in pictures, but a few reviews indicate it doesn't have one?
A: Unfortunately, that awning is broken and we've yet to replace it. We're doing our best to update the pictures but we haven't yet.
Q: Do you have any suggestions where we can take your van to camp?
A: I love dispersed (aka free/no services) camping in this van and have a couple (free) places near Salem that are lovely that I would be happy to guide you to! Otherwise, there is TONS of dispersed camping options all over Oregon for you to explore!
Q: Will you deliver my van to PDX or somewhere else?
Pick-up/delivery is possible in and around Portland. The fee is based on mileage. For airport pickup/delivery the fee is ~$125 dollars one-way. The fee is smaller the closer you are to Salem.
Q: Is your van reliable?
A: Yes. This vehicle is in pristine mechanical condition. I inspect the vehicle before and after every rental to make sure everything is in perfect working order.
Q: Do you allow one-way rentals?
A: No. Although -- I might be willing to do a one-way rental if you leave my van near some place of interest I haven't been before, but I won't get on a plane until COVID-19 is over.
Q: How long does the hand-off take?
A: About 30 minutes to do the paperwork and cover the features of the van. Less if you don't rent the fridge or camping gear.
Q: What time can I pick-up the van? And what time can I return the van?
By the letter of the law, pick-up is 3PM and return is 11AM. If there aren't any rentals either directly before or after your rental, I'm willing to be flexible on these times! If you absolutely need the van until late on the day you plan to return, you can always rent the next day to guarantee a late return.
Q: Can I use your van to tow my boat or trailer?
A: No.
Q: Can I smoke in or around your van?
A: No. There is NO SMOKING in or around my van. If I get my van back and it smells like cigarettes, you will be charged to professional remove the smell.
Q: What precautions are you taking regarding COVID-19?
A: We take COVID seriously and completely disinfect/clean/sanitize the van prior to your rental. We disinfect all surfaces -- with special attention to high-touch areas (steering wheel, radio, seat belt buckles, fan knobs, etc.). If you rent the fridge or camping gear, ALL of those items are sanitized and all dishes are cleaned in a dishwasher and reloaded into their containers using freshly washed hands while wearing a mask. We freshly wash all linens (sheets/towels/pillowcases/blankets/duvet cover/etc.) for your rental and make sure we make the bed with freshly washed hands while wearing a mask (we can wear gloves while doing this if it is important to you).
We do the paperwork via iPad -- and sanitzie the iPad before you use it. We can do the paperwork electronically if you'd rather to maintain more distance. We're also working on a information binder and YouTube "hand-off" video for people who don't want us to "show" them the van in person. If you rent the van and require this service -- we'll speed up this process (I expect to finish this by mid-September).I've asked everyone who has rented the van to keep my number and inform me if they contract COVID so we can do contact tracing. I cannot guarantee everyone is following this recommendation but I do inform each renter of this policy during the hand-off.Honestly -- my wife and I happy to do whatever necessary to make you comfortable with the hand-off, no matter how crazy or cautious it may sound.RULES OF THE ROAD:
- NO OFF-ROADING or OHV. I support you using this vehicle to explore the back-country, but serious OFF-ROADING or OHV use is prohibited. I consider our van a "bad-road" vehicle not an "off-road" vehicle. You are responsible for the cost of any damage or recovery costs incurred while off-roading including mechanical failures. I built this van from the ground up and I will inspect the vehicle before you rent it and after you return it.
- NO TOWING.
