Let's start with a few questions to narrow down your options.

Home to Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial, South Dakota is a sparsely populated state in the Midwest. It’s named after the Lakota and Dakota Sioux Native American tribes and officially became a state in 1889 along with North Dakota.
Humans have inhabited the region for several millennia, with European-American settlement increasing following a gold rush in the Black Hills during the late 19th century. The 20th century was marked by the Dust Bowl, a period of intense dust storms that significantly impacted the ecology and agriculture of the prairies.
South Dakota’s geography ranges from the Great Plains to the rugged hills and buttes west of the Missouri River while in the south lies the Black Hills and the South Dakota Badlands. With its continental climate, the state experiences four distinct seasons and sees summer highs of around 90°F and lows below 10°F.
