There are some stunning natural environments worth visiting while you're here, and anybody looking to see the mountains should consider an RV rental in western WA. This region includes Olympic National Park, which features 70 miles of coastline complete with rugged mountains and lush woodlands. This park is great for hiking, with several lengthy trails leading up mountains, through stark valleys, and along the coast. While trekking across the Olympic Mountains, keep on the lookout for local wildlife, including elk and black bears, and you may even spot a whale off the coast. There are several campgrounds in Olympic National Park, most of which are located along the seaside.
Alternatively, you might want to head south to the Columbia Plateau. This region has many excellent parks, such as Sacajawea Historical State Park, which features dozens of acres of meadows and woodlands at the convergence of the Columbia and the Snake rivers. This historic park marks the area where Lewis and Clark first encountered Native Americans, and there is a museum on-site where visitors can learn more. The park is also great for watersports, with a boat ramp on-site, and there's a short riverside trail ideal for a reflective stroll. There are plenty of well-equipped RV campgrounds near the Columbia River, like the Franklin Country RV Park in Pasco, which boasts sites with full hookups.
Head north and spend some time in the Rocky Mountains. Curlew Lake State Park is a gateway to the mountains and consists of rolling hills and dense woodlands around a five-mile-long lake. This lake is perfect for fishing, and anglers often reel in yellow perch, bass, and trout. Many birds of prey call this lake home, and while fishing, watch out for herons, bald eagles, and osprey. The park also features a two-mile hiking trail that runs through the surrounding forest. There are lots of campgrounds in the area, including one at the park that contains sites with full hookups overlooking the lake.
Set aside some time to visit southwestern Washington. Gifford Pinchot National Forest is perfect for adventurers, with over 1,000,000 acres of lush rainforests, sublime waterfalls, and even volcanoes to discover. There are hundreds of miles of trails leading through the forests and up to the top of nearby mountains, including the 12,000-foot-tall Mount Adams. This national forest contains several campgrounds, including the Horseshoe Lake Campground, which features 12 basic sites along the edge of a serene lake.
