Memories made on trips with Adrian Floreani's RVs

While the rental process was seamless and the owner, Adrian, was responsive and amiable, the RV itself did not align with the expectations set by its online description.
The RV, a unit over 30 years old, was presented in a flattering manner in the photographs. However, upon receiving the vehicle, its age was clearly noticeable. Additionally, the RV was not delivered in a clean state, necessitating a stop to clean the bathroom, toilet, sinks, and floors before we could comfortably use it.
The listing highlighted recent renovations, including an updated A/C system. Regrettably, we were unable to verify this as the generator, essential for operating the A/C, was non-functional. This issue also resulted in the absence of 110 electrical service.
While the RV's interior had some minor updates such as new flooring and light-blocking curtains, there were areas where privacy was compromised. The central living/sleeping area lacked a curtain, and the bedroom's sliding door was unable to latch, leaving the room exposed.
On the road, the RV's steering felt loose, and the brakes, while functional, required an excessive stopping distance, even when considering the vehicle's weight. This observation is based on our experience of renting and driving a dozen or so RVs over the years. The engine also experienced overheating issues on two separate occasions, with the radiator boiling over during one instance. Fortunately, these incidents did not cause any significant delays in our journey.
Despite these challenges, we were able to manage a satisfactory two-night stay. However, the overall experience could have been better with a more accurate listing description. This vehicle is a basic, no-frills model that has seen extensive use. The term "recently remodeled," as used in the listing, seems to be an overstatement.

Adrian’s answer

A fuse was blown on the radiator electric cooling fan and the power cord was unplugged on the generator. The brakes are all new. A few other minor things were fixed. We always attend to all customer comments. The exterior has no damage but for the sun over the years. You can pay 3 times more for a newer model if you want a newer looking rig.

Adrian was a very pleasant host to work with. He went over how to operate the unit and was thorough. We had a great trip in the RV. There an issue with the water pump but Adrian sent out someone immediately to repair the issue. There were a few issues we worked around but over all we had a good experience with the RV.

While the RV delivered us safely a short distance from Colorado Springs to Buena Vista, and the owner is friendly, the vehicle is definitely not "like new" as listed. Mechanically, everything works except the front dashboard fan and air conditioning; however, the interior condition is disgustingly filthy, and stinks like stale, cigarette smoke. It's gross, but we made the best of it because it was only a three night rental. I would not rent again without proof of deep cleaning and activated charcoal air filtration. The beds are comfortable. It is uncomfortable and difficult for a person over 5'10" to drive due to lack of room to move the driver's seat back. The driver's seat is exceedingly old and uncomfortable. I was shocked we paid as much as we did for this RV rental, but the market is what it is regarding supply and demand.

Adrian was very helpful for new renters like us and communicated well with us at all times. The rig is very well-worn as you might expect for its age. AC is brand new. Overall, it served our purposes for a short trip. It was stocked with everything we needed including linens, TP, soap, vacuum, salt, sugar, coffee filters etc. The water on board is not potable; so be sure to bring plenty of drinking water.

It was fine. Not as bad as the one previous review, which was published after I booked and before we had our trip. It definitely isn’t that clean and it’s got a old and faintly Smokey scent. The bed is not a queen, although the bed above the cab is. We ended up staying in hotels after the first night because the RV parks were not much less expensive than a hotel and hotels were much more comfortable and clean. RVs have come a long way in 35 years.

Honestly, the worst experience we’ve ever had of trying to rent a vehicle or vacation rental of any kind. First of all, at time of pick-up, the owner of the RV was changing the oil, then it was a timing belt, then it was recharging the AC. Upon the walk-through of the RV, it was definitely not in the condition as he described in his listing of the RV. There was liquid underneath the vehicle where it had been sitting. It was definitely not “like new, garage kept or excellently maintained”. The tires were not “new tires”. It had a broken screen door, bathroom not clean with clumps of hair in the drain, unknown substances spilled all over the interior surfaces, crumbs and food on/in the stove, under the sink, in misc. drawers and cabinets. Interior carpet was absolutely horrible, stains and grounding filth everywhere and you could tell that it has not been vaccumed or shampooed in quite some time. Cigarette burns on cushions, which on the app says no smoking. There was also a strong odor of smoke. We tried talking to the owner about all the issues but he was so hard to deal with and kept saying everything was fine and “ready to go”. We definitely did not feel comfortable with taking the RV on a long trip with four young children in questionable mechanical condition and unsanitary condition. We were not expecting a new RV or interior being in perfect condition as it is a 1987. But we were expecting it to be the way the the owner advertised it on the outdoorsy app, which it definitely wasn't. We tried explaining this to the owner but he was not respectful in anyway. We asked politely if he would cancel (since that is the only certain way to get a full refund) and he laughed at that and said “good luck with getting your money back”. I really don't see how in anyway someone can get away with something like this. Very unprofessional!!
Needless to say it ruined our holiday weekend and cost us a lot of money on reservations that were already made - approximately $750, not accounting for driving down there and the time disputing this has taken away from work. Thus far, (5 days later) nothing has been resolved by Outdoorsy - they’re more on the owner side of the situation, then honestly listening to our evidenced side of the story. Unlike any of the other vacation rental companies (Airbnb, VRBO), outdoorsy did not arrange for another vehicle, at our cost (they tied up our money) or their cost of the difference for another vehicle, nor try to help in any other way. This left us unable to meet our other non-refundable reservations at a loss of an additional approximate $750.00. Outdoorsy still has not reimbursed us for the rental we never received and has yet to release the security hold on our credit card. It is the last and only time we will use Outdoorsy - they do not vet the owners who list on their site and do not operate in good faith when things go wrong.
