Joy The Van has got all the cozy charm and creature comforts you need to live your #vanlife dreams. Inside, she's got a luxury mattress with an optional toper for those who like a softer bed, a kitchen area with running water and a fridge, a toilet, a heater for chilly nights, a ceiling fan for warmer days, and a working electrical system that means you'll never go without a charge. Outside you'll find a portable outdoor shower, a cook stove, a folding table, camp chairs, and a cell phone signal booster which should help you make calls and tether in more remote locations. Converted by a badass lady, Joy (short for Joyce) started her life as a State of MA Wheelchair Van, and over the last year, we build her into a home. She may have a few rough edges, but her build was filled with nothing but love. She took us out to CA and back and we are excited to share her with the world in-between adventures. Things to note before your stay: The bed length is around 5ft 8in. Our family heights 5' 11", 5'6", and an 11lb dog all slept comfortably in this space (if slightly diagonal at times). We are working on adjusting this but have not done so yet! You can check our adventures and build on insta: @joythevan_

There are so many magical places to visit in New England regardless of the time of year. Our personal favorites are Acadia National Park (where we were married), leaf peeping in VT, or spending time on the beaches in RI.

Meet your host, Molly

Member since 2022

We are so excited to meet you and have you take our van on its next adventure! Our family - Molly, Sam, and our cockapoo Zoey just got back from a cross-country road trip in Joy (our van). It was quite an adventure. We loved all the amazing places we got to see. Zoey on the other hand spent more time looking away from the view catching flies or on a hunt for the best smells. To each their own. We live in the Boston area and are very involved in the disability space. Molly runs a startup accelerator that supports businesses building products that positively impact the lives of people with disabilities, and Sam works at a podcast company, more famously known for producing the podcast Disgraceland. We are excited (and nervous) to share our van with the world. She is our second home. We hope you love her and care for her the way we do.

We had an absolutely amazing time with Joy. Sam & Molly were top notch hosts. Very responsive and provided thorough information to have the best vacation. Can’t wait to book our next trip. Missing Joy already!

Joy was a joy to drive! We took her down to the Charlestown Breakwater and spent 2 nights under the stars. The bed was super comfortable and we got a great nights sleep. The powerful ceiling fan kept us cool all day and we even managed to get some work done. The van drove great and gave us no issues. Highly recommend you rent Joy and have your own adventure!

We had the honor of being the first renters for Joy the Van. She was surprisingly very easy to drive and maneuver, much like a large car. We had a few questions along the way for Molly and Sam, and they were extremely responsive and helpful! The bed is small as noted, but very comfortable with good quality linens. We look forward to renting Joy again in the future!

Have a question?Get answers directly from the owner

Q.What time do I need to return the van?
A.
Please return the van by 2 PM on the last day of your rental unless you have cleared a different time with us ahead of time.

Q.What flexibility is available for picking up and dropping off the RV?
A.
We are happy to bring the van to you, so long as it is within 60 miles of Cambridge, MA. So long as the timing works, we are also happy to bring the van to you at the airport if you are flying in.

Q.How does the electrical system work?
A.
So long as everything is working properly you shouldn't have to think about it. We have a bunch of plugs that are 12v (think cigarette lighter in a car) that will allow you to easily charge your phones/kindles etc. We also have an inverter that allows you to charge your computer and other devices with a regular plug.

Q.Do you have a shower?
A.
Yes! But you don't use it in the van. We have a rinse kit that can be used outside of the van, and a pop-up shower stall that you can use for privacy.
