1999 Volkswagen Eurovan
Take a trip back in time to 1999. Slower living, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and the first episode of SpongeBob SquarePants.Snowball is your basic camper van and will get you to almost every corner of the island. This cruiser is equipped seating and sleeping for 4, a 2-burner stovetop, sink, cooler, plating for 4, utensils and storage. The AC doesn’t blow cold anymore, but with the cabin windows opened the van will stay cool for day/night use. There is also a small fan that can be plugged in for extra cooling!Snowball is reaching her 25th birthday and is still rocking to go around most of the island, but she’s not so great at handling strenuous driving conditions.Snowball Will NOT make it up to Waimea Canyon or Kokee (45 minutes up the mountain with steep sections is too much), or to Polihale (due to very low clearance) and drivers are prohibited to drive to those places. If you have any questions about travel on the island please ask! There are several affordable county campsites , most available on short notice (links and details below). The camper comes with everything you need to live inside, but if you want extras like a grilling set, tent, hammock, beach supplies (beach towels, fins, speaker), or a portable charger, please reserve them in the add-ons section during checkout.I'm 6ft tall and use the van comfortably. I moved to Kauai in early 2023 from San Diego after visiting the island for just a few days in 2022. Since then, it has been an amazing home and I'm still not done exploring everything there is to offer. I love sharing my van with first-time visitors and island regulars/residents. Please let me know if you'd like help deciding what to do and places to see!

Despite being an old van, snowball worked perfectly around the island. The three of us enjoyed it while surfing around the island. Andrew and Julia were very honest on the listing, as so there were no surprises. The hosts are extremely easy to communicate with, and were always very helpful along the journey.

When we got to the van the battery was dead. The owner sent a friend to jump it who shows up with a dead charger. Then asks us to purchase an extension cord to charge it. Then asks us to flag someone in the parking lot with jumper cables to jump it. 5 hours later, after I called roadside assistance, we finally get going and the van doesn’t even drive! The transmission must be going out on it. The owner denies any knowledge of such problems. We ended up parking the van at camp and getting a rental car for the entire trip. The roof on the van leaked water heavily during the rain. The a/c didn’t work at all. And we couldn’t get the power adapter box to work for the fan that was provided. In the middle of the night the solar power system alarm went off waking me up. Amongst other issues. Realistically, the van should be retired if it isn’t going to be completely restored. After this experience it will be a miracle if I rent from this website again.

We are two friends who rented the van for a whole weekend (Friday to Sunday), and we are wordless about how amazing the experience was. First, the owners prepared the van with all the necessary supplies to make our stay comfortable. After that, they were available at any time to help us with any doubt which made us feel confident whenever driving it. Regarding the van's conditions, it is simply perfect. We are recommending the experience so much!

If you know what van life is about and love a vintage experience the Snowball will be your perfect fit! Just a heads up this van doesn’t really have showering capabilities so make sure you investigate how you’ll do your bathing well in advance but if you’re on a budget, especially and you don’t mind using the YMCA or beach showers taking a van around the island is the absolute best way to see it. We love the option to sleep upstairs or downstairs, depending on preference and it was so convenient to have a kitchen with running water at our fingertips. Andrew was such a responsive and responsible host. Make sure you ask him any questions or doubts you have before you get in the van so you feel prepared for the adventure to come. We’re happy to call Andrew and Julia amigos after such a wonderful welcoming.
