Chariot may feel a bit snug for drivers over 6 ft due to the partition wall behind the driver’s seat. That said, many of our 6’+ guests have shared that they were still comfortable driving—just something to keep in mind!2. Pickup Options:
Depending on your/my schedule, there're two ways to pick up Chariot:
[In-person pickup] Includes a 45–60 minute walkthrough. Please plan your arrival time accordingly.
[Self pickup] You’ll receive 9 short walkthrough videos (about 90 seconds each) to review in advance.3. Tolls:
Any toll charges incurred during your trip will be deducted from your security deposit after return.4. Cleaning & Dishes:
We thoroughly clean and sanitize the van before every trip. If you use the cookware, please wash all dishes before returning the van. A $100 cleaning fee will apply otherwise.5. Lost Keys:
Lost keys will incur a replacement fee of $350 per key.6. Out-of-State Travel:
Chariot comes with unlimited mileage. For trips outside California, guests are responsible for covering the cost of an oil change and tire rotation at a verified Ford dealership (before, during, or after the trip depending on timing). Estimated cost: $150–$550.7. No Smoking:
Smoking inside the van is strictly prohibited. A $250 cleaning penalty will apply if violated.8. Pets:
Pets are welcome with an added pet fee—please include this when booking. If pet presence is discovered without the add-on, a $250 penalty will apply.9. Interior Care (Woodwork):
Please treat Chariot with care. Any deep scratches, gouges, or damage to the wood interior beyond normal wear may result in repair fees, which will be assessed based on the extent of the damage.10. Excessive Cleaning Fee:
Excessive cleaning fees may apply if the van is returned unusually dirty beyond normal use (ex: excessive mud, stains, spills, sand, strong odors, alkaline dust, etc.). Fee will be assessed based on the level of cleaning required.Story of Chariot - Chasing Wild Dreams!
Chariot was created to chase a wild dream of mine back in 2019 and she has brought me to the wildest dreams I could ever imagine after living full time in it for one year. Chariot is a Ford Transit XTL 250 High Roof cargo van (good for tall human to stand in but not driving :). Then piece by piece, wire by wire, my carpenter friend and I designed and built the basic structure. She went across the country 3 times after the built and have become something bigger than I expected. Over the years, my partner Derek and I, slowly refined and upgraded everything to what you see now. Chariot is not commercially designed but self designed with lots of charm and personality. She's not high maintenance, however, your journey will be a lot easier if you pay attention to her details and treat her with respect.Chariot has taken us to 15+ national parks across the country along with our little black cat, Miss Mishi. Chariot has all the things you'd need to call it home. So all you need is your free spirited mind and suitcase! I can't wait to see what she will take you on for a magical journey of your own! What's included• All linens & towels
• One burner induction cooktop with cookwares.
• Biodegradable soap for handwashing and showering - Dr. Bronner's
• Leveling blocks
• Small space heater
• Two extra 5 gallon water jugs for your off-roading trip
• Portable bluetooth speaker
• Polaroid instant camera with film
• Yoga mat
• Foldable picnic blanketRecommendationsCalifornia is beautiful everywhere you go. Let's chat so I can recommend what interests you the most (the towering Redwoods, Giant Sequoias, rugged coastline, sea urchin hunting, fishing, bird/animal watching, etc...)Other things to noteOur normal pick-up time is 2pm, drop-off time is 11am. I won’t charge early pickup fee or extra late fees AS LONG AS we work it out before your trip and you can be punctual and communicative if you run late.

Dedicated to renter's trip success
Charlotte provides detailed instructions, videos, and recommendations. She's highly responsive, supportive, and goes above and beyond, even driving 8 hours to assist with a mid-trip issue or offering resources for a flat tire.
Easy to drive and park
The van is easy to drive, fits in regular parking spots, and offers good fuel efficiency (less than half a tank for 6 hours). The interior is cozy, functional, and well-designed with custom wood, solar power, sink, fridge, and a comfortable bed. An actual heater is planned for cold nights.

5.0Incredible first van life experience! Charlotte was the easiest host to work with and provided everything you could think of. We actually packed too much! Both Jack and I are 6’ 1 and 6’. We slept better than we do in our bed back home. We drive up to the redwoods and back and had no issues with the van whatsoever. Again couldn’t have asked for a better experience! Thank you Charlotte!!

5.0Chariot is just the best. Charlotte was so easy to work with and available when things came up or had questions. All instructions were easy to follow. The bed was comfortable and the space was so sweet. Just being in the vehicle was so fun and really added an element to the camping trip. We slept so well even in cool temperatures. All amenities were so thoughtful. I highly recommend!

5.0Charlotte was amazing to communicate with! Super nice and responsive and gave a really thorough tour of the van including videos! Driving the van took some getting used to but it was pretty easy and can fit in regular parking spots. My daughter and I enjoyed the coziness of the van though it did get cold at night. We used the space heater for an hour but it drained the battery too much. I guess just don’t go camping when it’s winter and 40 degrees at night! Other than that, the van was great and Charlotte is a wonderful host!

Frequently asked questions
Q.
What if I drive through a toll?
A.
Your toll(s) will be collected after the trip and the payment will be deducted from the $500 deposit within 7 days.
Q.
Are there any special tricks and tips that would help with operating the RV easily?
A.
Please make it a habit to always check and ensure all drawers are locked and all lose items are put away before hitting the road! It will help prevent damages and would ultimately make your trip much more enjoyable!
Q.
What flexibility is available for picking up and dropping off the RV?
A.
We're usually very flexible since I work from home. So I'll try to be as accommodated as possible unless we're happened to be away. We also have a very easy self-pickup & drop off system if needed.
Q.
Can I bring along my pet(s)?
A.
Yes! We're pet-friendly. But please disclose that you're bringing your pet(s) along and purchase the pet fee. Failure to do so will result in $250 penalty if we deem that there's trace of pet(s) being in the van when cleaning.
