Welcome to Park City, Utah. A delight to snowboarders and skiers, Park City is known for its two world-class resorts, Park City Mountain and Deer Valley Resort. Each year, people from around the globe come to try their hand at these famous slopes. But Park City wasn’t always a ski town. In fact, when the city was founded in 1869, silver mining was the “breadwinner” of this northern Utah city. For several years, Park City was one of the most sought-after mining town thanks to its modern conveniences like running water and electricity. However, in 1898, three-fourths of the town was destroyed by a fire. The fire took its toll on the community and Park City almost became a ghost town. However, in 1963, the city, with some financial assistance from the federal government, began to rebuild. Today, Park City is a haven for winter recreation and even hosted the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.
