Discover Howe RV rentals for memorable road trips

After the Texas Revolution ended in 1836, the first settlers arrived in the region that would later become the site of Howe. The Jabez brothers were ranchers and entrepreneur. They had heard that when railroads laid down tracks near settlements, these settlements tended to grow rapidly. To entice the Houston and Texas Central Railway to route through Howe, they offered portions of their land to the company. The railroad established a rail switch and a depot on a hilltop, which was nicknamed the Summit because it was the highest point in between the Red River and the Gulf of Mexico. Indeed, once the depot was built, a small settlement sprang up around it, and the Jabez brothers profited from selling plots of land to these new residents. When the post office was established, which often marks the founding date of a town, in 1876, the residents named it “Howe” after a prominent railroad employee.

The Great Outdoors

There’s nothing better than waking up to birdsong and the sound of water lapping at the shoreline, which isn’t feasible in a hotel. Travel trailer rentals in Howe, TX, can make that fantasy a reality. Though northern Texas is mostly agricultural, there are several large lakes and parks at which one can get in touch with their inner wild self. The Lake Texoma on the Texas-Oklahoma border is one of the largest reservoirs in the country. Due to a unique geological quirk, Red River, which feeds the lake, is a saltwater tributary. As a result, Lake Texoma is the only land-locked source of striped bass, a saltwater fish. The freshwater tributaries feeding the lake also supports a population of freshwater fish like largemouth bass, three types of catfish, and carp. Of course, other water recreational activities are enjoyed by many, including jetskiing, sailing, and hiking. The cross-timber Texoma hiking trail, roughly 10 miles long, follows the Texas side of the lake’s perimeter. This trail, and several others are dog-friendly. Hikers are cautioned to watch for snakes like cottonmouth and rattlesnakes. Bring your Howe camper rental here as there are several public and private campgrounds in the area.
