Discover Vacaville, CA

Visitors to Vacaville will get a glimpse of what the days to come will provide them; the small town, 27 square miles in size, is planted firmly amongst orchards, farms and wonderful rolling hills. In northern Solano County, the city is roughly halfway between Sacramento to the east and San Francisco to the west. Other nearby towns include Napa, Sonoma and Oakley.

Originally a small farming community, Vacaville has recently grown very quickly, which is why it has the feel of a bigger progressive city as well as the personality of a small town. When you book an RV in Vacaville, you’ll find that Its central location makes it the perfect center for venturing out to neighboring towns and cities, but it still has a lot to offer to the tourists it openly welcomes.

Public transportation is provided by the City of Vacaville Public Works Department and covers the city effectively. Gas stations are spread effectively throughout the city and are easy to find.

There are many options for grocery shopping including a grocery store located a short walking distance from Putah South River and a Walmart located on the other side of Putah South River, at the intersection of Helen Power Drive and Burton Drive. Both of these venues have reasonably large parking lots that will accommodate your Vacaville camper rental while you shop and then deliver your selections straight to your own personal fridge.

The Great Outdoors

In a climate this inviting, it is almost impossible to stay indoors. Mild winters draw most people outdoors to witness the Festival of Trees in the local ice rink; the Tree Lighting Ceremony includes a 50-foot tree, music, hot chocolate and horse-drawn carriages. RVers can enjoy fishing and hiking in Lagoon Valley Park, or even go sailing. Canoes and kayaks are also available to be rented. Nearby Pena Adobe Regional Park has hiking and biking trails, barbecue areas and an area for dog owners and their pets.

Twenty-five minutes south of Vacaville, in Vallejo, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is a theme park offering up to 10 different roller coaster rides, a zoo and a water park. There is something here for everyone, children and adults.

Vacaville has a vintage market where guests can browse amongst all sorts of oddities and interesting items, as well as gift and specialty shops selling everything from rocks and minerals to locally grown produce. Slightly outside of the city limits, RVers can park their Vacaville, CA luxury rental RV while enjoying the countryside attractions; there are the usual enjoyable farms where children can touch the pets and in Browns Valley Open Space, there are a large number of boulders where enthusiasts can practice their climbing skills.

Solano County is an excellent area for avid cyclists, from riding on the road to riding next to small creeks and lakes. There are even more challenging rides for more skilled riders and bicycles can be rented by the hour or by the day, depending on your preference.

Out in Napa and Sonoma, you have your choice of any of a number of vineyards you can visit, and there is even a wine train that will take you from Napa north to St. Helena, passing through the Napa Valley countryside on the way. This trip includes a gourmet lunch, one wine tasting (more can be purchased) and returns you to Napa three hours later.

The only thing that could possibly top the creature comfort of a countryside train trip is floating above that same countryside in a hot air balloon. These early morning trips (pre-sunrise) begin with a small continental breakfast, followed by a short safety briefing, a 40-minute to one-hour ride and finally a champagne brunch. The trip can be followed by a vineyard hopping tour, although this is not included as part of the hot air balloon trip.

Steele Canyon Campground is in Napa, about 30 miles northwest of Vacaville, and might be worth a look for those planning to do a bit of tasting and touring in Wine Country.

Exploring The City

Just off of Interstate 80, the Nut Tree is a massive complex of shops, kid-friendly restaurants, and a children's play area with a carousel, miniature train ride, rocking horses and a life-size chess set.

Parking your Vacaville rental camper at Andrews Park is the starting point for a walking tour of this city. Vacaville is not lacking in high-quality wine bars, craft beer pubs, and cafes. It is home to two public libraries that host children's programs for when the young ones need a little less excitement.

Dining out in Vacaville will bring you face to face with Mexican and German cuisine outlets, in addition to the familiar American comfort food we all love.
